4c Executive has begun the hunt to find a dynamic and visionary leader to fill one of the most exciting and high-profile roles in global sport, the Chief Executive of Ulster Rugby.
The executive search firm said the successful candidate will be in charge of implementing the organisation’s ambitious plans for the future, both on and off the pitch and, crucially, will provide inspirational and strong leadership for the game throughout the province.
The position calls for a unique blend of commercial acumen as well as inherent passion to protect and promote the values, spirit and prominence of rugby throughout Ulster.
As such, a true understanding of the game is crucial, as is an ability to develop the organisation to help meet the strategic objectives of the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) and to develop the game at grassroots level.
Previous experience at chief executive or senior management level is essential, as is a track record of delivering strategic objectives within a commercially focused, multi-layered organisation.
For the right candidate, a highly competitive salary and benefits package is available.
Paul Terrington, Chair of Ulster Rugby Management Committee, said:
“There are firm foundations in place at Ulster Rugby and sound structures for both the professional and amateur game. However, there is work to do to make the most of opportunities ahead and the appointment of a new CEO is a key element in future success.
“We are striving for excellence on and off the field and want a charismatic leader who can deliver across rugby in Ulster. The ideal person will have experience in the business of sport, real achievement in leading organisations and proven ability to work across multiple stakeholders.
“We want a CEO who not only has an affinity with rugby in general, but who shares the values and the ambition of Ulster Rugby."
Gary Irvine, Founder and Chief Executive of 4c Executive, said:
“This is a very high-profile role which demands a lot but offers an excellent opportunity for the right candidate. Clear leadership skills, a proven record of success and astute commercial acumen are essential, as is an ability to deal with the multiple stakeholders who are involved in the day-to-day running of Ulster Rugby.
“With those factors in place, a true understanding of both the game and business of rugby will set the successful candidate apart.”
Gareth Hanna, Search Consultant at 4c Executive, said:
“Rarely does such a unique opportunity emerge, not just in Northern Ireland, but globally. We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced individual who can not only lead Ulster Rugby as a commercial and sporting organisation, but who can represent its interests to the wealth of stakeholders who are essential to its success.”
